Is it just me or does it seem like France is responsible for some of the nastiest, most violent music on the planet? The modern black metal scene (with highlights Blacklodge, Antaeus, Arkhon Infaustus and Blut Aus Nord all issuing their own brands and hateful sound). On the electronic side of things we have an act like Obszon Geschopf and in between the two stellar groups Herrschaft and The CNK (formerly known as Count Nosferatu Kommando). Glaukom Synod release “Ogre” would be a nice addition to the libraries of anyone into extreme metal and harsh industrial that doesn’t mind a little glitch and noise mixed in. Be warned, this is not an easy listen but it is an engaging and exciting one. This is something that those not accustomed to spastic changes in songs might not fully grasp onto but I can guarantee not many would find this album boring. “Ogre” is a collection of songs throwing bloody chunks of twitching music towards the listener in rapid succession. Some will find this onslaught to be enthralling, some will find it frustrating. There’s little room in between love and hate with these guys I imagine but if you’re interested in music that’s constantly changing and exudes energy even through mechanical notions than I’d recommend. It’s not an easy style to describe, some kind of warped by-product of classic late 80s/early 90s industrial, extreme heavy metal and some fucked up minds behind the sounds. I’ve chosen to borrow the genre description from fellow Heathen Harvester Sage’s review of a previous Glaukom Synod release.
