TenHornedBeast
From deep within the hinterlands of northern England the
TenHornedBeast is rising. Widely known for his 1990s work with
English dark-ambient occultists Endvra Christopher Walton has let
loose a new maelstrom. Powered by biblical prophecy and oppressive
volume TenHornedBeast stalks the neither-neither world between
sound and invocation. The Law Of The Needle is a work of intense
power and intelligence, carefully constructed for maximum effect
on the attentive listener. Repeated listening reaps great rewards.
Marzuraan
Marzuraan pull out all the stops with their greatest recording to
date. Drawing on all aspects of their previous work and building
on their 2006 Solid Wood LP, Into Countless Battles sees the
band in a hazy fog of narcotic bliss, swathes of warm guitar,
droning arcs of bass and buried vocals: this track should never
end. Always uncomfortable with the Doom tag, Marzuraan have been
ploughing their own musical (and graphic) furrough for some years
now, and Into countless battles sees them regressing forwards
into evre more tuneful territory. The bands love of great 80s
and 90s US bands such as Die Kreuzen, Bitch Magnet and DC
hardcore is perhaps more evident here, though approached as an
influence rather than the standard technique of merely copying
your favourite bands of yore (I could mention the thrash revival
here...). Perhaps with the additional exposure that Petes noise
project R.Y.N. is getting these days there is a greater focus on
musicality in Marzuraan. Whichever way you slice it, Marzuraan
continue to be one of the great UK underground bands.
