Sophia, the martial and percussion-based project of Peter Pettersson
(the musician of Arcana) is back with a second album. The first thing
that one will notice about "Herbstwerk" is its beautiful packaging, in a
three panel blue-grey digipack on wich photos of desolate churches and
ruins are embossed on glossy paper. There is no doubt to have here,
what you get is a high quality and very esthetic Cold Meat Industry
release.

Unlike Arcana, which is soft, gentle and dreamy, Sophia is percussive
and military sounding. Even though this act is still middle-age sounding,
and if the sound and structure of these track remind a lot of Arcana,
the atmosphere is different here, far more solemn and energetic. No
female voice is to be heard on this album, but rather, on a small number
of tracks, the almost whispered voice of Peter Petterrson (as well as a
long voice sample in Swedish on "Prost!").

"Herbstwerk" is a recommended CD for the way it creates epic and lyrical
atmospheres without falling into the militaristic / right wing mood of
so many acts playing comparable music. No samples of dubious speeches on
this one, but really a lots of effort put in writing a compact, coherent
and energetic disc that combines strength and beautiful moments. This
will probably become a classic, and is recommended for any fan of Arcana,
Sephiroth, and anbody into soundtrack-oriented music.

"Aus Der Welt" was at first a 10" vinyl self released by Sophia. Now it
got also included in the 3000 first copies of this album "Herbstwerk", as
a bonus 3" CD. The tracks are the same, as well as the artwork, which is
however far smaller, transfered from 10" to 3".
