Leger Des Heils - Memoria (2008)
GENRE..... Folk
LABEL...... Eis & Licht
MODE....... VBRkbps / Joint-Stereo
REL.DATE.. Nov-26-2008
On their third album "Memoria", LEGER DES HEILS once more
present German poetry exquisitely set to music, and that is what
sets them apart from so many other neo-classically inspired
projects.
You may be surprised how pop-like, charming and catchy the music
sounds. You may even think you've heard some of the songs
before, you'll draw comparisons to ORPLID or DERNIERE VOLONTE,
but then you'll realise that the music of LEGER DES HEILS is
eminently German in nature.
Yes, they've never been this touching, this stirring, this
honest and this romantic before. They make you want to go out
into the great outdoors, to forests and mountains, toward the
sun and toward the gods. So let us summarize: LEGER DES HEILS
are a wholly original Gesamtkunstwerk made up of heroic pop,
classical poetry, and spiritual romanticism. They are totally
unique in this approach for sure!

Naevus - Relatively Close To The Sea (2008)
GENRE..... Folk
LABEL...... Hau Ruck!
MODE....... VBRkbps / Joint-Stereo
REL.DATE.. Nov-19-2008
For the sixth Naevus album, Relatively Close to the
Sea, Lloyd James (voice, acoustic guitar,
keyboards) and Joanne Owen (bass, accordion,
keyboards) joined by their regular drummer John
Murphy (Knifeladder, Shining Vril). The album also
features contributions from Greg Ferrari (Womb) on
electric guitar, Joanna Quail (SonVer) on cello,
Matt Howden (Sieben) on violin; and Arthur Shaw
(Cutty Sark) on keyboard. Dominic O'Connor
(eulogised in Silent Life's Dominic Song) is there
in spirit the album includes a cover version of
one of his compositions, previously unreleased in
any form. Many of the tracks here have already been
performed live in recent Naevus festival
appearances, notably Meat On Meat, which is close
in temperament to the preceding album Silent Life.
However, the remainder of the tracks on offer
branch out in a range of other directions; Dented
Mess harks back to the existential pop elements of
Truffles of Love; The German is a dalliance with
Schlager-esque murder balladry; while the title
track itself combines slide guitar and lo-fi synths
with the Naevus band sound. The centrepiece of the
album, and Naevus' greatest recorded work to date,
is the 18-minute Go Grow, takes the progressive
influences that have been present in Naevus since
the beginning (Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, etc.) and weds
them with soaring cello and John Cale-esque piano
pounding to produce a sublime epic. Relatively
Close to the Sea is packaged in a digipak with 12
page booklet including lyrics.

The Australian songwriter and DER BLUTHARSCH member
returns with an album, featuring 15 reverb drenched
tales of love, loss, betrayal and revenge. The
album is guitar driven and features a Motley Crew

tunes for the back rooms, the darkened corners, the
crime-ridden streets of an imagined future city

Phragments - Earth Shall Not Cover Their Blood (2008)
GENRE..... Industrial, Folk
LABEL...... Malignant Records
MODE....... VBRkbps / Joint-Stereo
REL.DATE.. Nov-07-2008
You've seen it before. Certain bands or artists delivering their
finest work with their first recording. Then, in futile attempts
to capture some of the same magic, becoming formulaic and stale,
rehashing ideas and never really achieving the same caliber of
work. Others, expanding on the elements of their prior releases,
and through a natural maturation process, get stronger with each
release. That would certainly be the case with Phragments. With
their third full length studio CD, this Slovakian duo have made
remarkable strides not only in quality but in scope. Equipped
with an enriched sonic palate, Earth Shall Not Cover Their Blood
mixes forceful brass and dark orchestral strings with rolls of
powerful tribal percussion, somber wind instrumentation, ominous
atmospheres, industrial clangor, and a strong and commanding
vocal presence, particularly on tracks like Over Deadlands and
The Kin of Cain. Cohesive, complete, and epic, this is a
release that will open some eyes to new found authority of
Phragments. Yours to discover.

[ARCHiVED] Arditi - Marching on to Victory (Remastered) (2003)
GENRE..... Folk, Industrial, Modern Classical, Martial
LABEL...... Equlibrium Music
MODE....... VBRkbps / Joint-Stereo
REL.DATE.. Jan-20-2007
Originally released in a 1000 copies limited edition in 2003,
this was Arditi's first full-length album, now made available
again with 2 extra tracks in deluxe Digipak.
The original release of "Marching on to Victory" dates back to
2003, with a small pressing of 1000 copies on the obscure
Swedish label Svartvintras. The legacy that one half of the
project brought from his work with Puissance was fairly evident,
yet the focus on his work as Arditi was not so much beautifuly
orchestrated narrations of the apocalypse, but far grimmer
depictions of the past centuries world conflicts. Field
recordings and blurry speeches were incorporated into Arditi's
compositions, adding a rather disturbing tone to the predominant
military snare-drums, obscure symphonic arrangements and
hypnotic soundscapes. The suffocating combination between
martial classical arrangements and somber atmospheres would set
Arditi's debut album as one of the bleakest releases on the
Militaristic Neo-Classical movement that was starting to
flourish at the time. "Marching on to Victory" is now made
available again, in a deluxe Digipak release featuring 2 bonus
tracks.

[ARCHiVED] Arditi - Standards of Triumph (2006)
GENRE..... Folk, Industrial, Modern Classical, Martial
LABEL...... Equilibrium Music
MODE....... VBRkbps / Joint-Stereo
REL.DATE.. 05-27-2006
Tapping further into the darker tones of
Militaristic Neo-Classical ambiance, Arditi
present their strongest effort so far, with
their ever effective use of crushing
orchestrations and evocative speeches. Heavy
vinyl, lim.500 copies, w/A2 poster.
Spearheaded by H. Mller and M. Bjrkman,
Arditi's first recordings came to light in
1997, inspired by the Italian Futurist Movement
of the early 20th century.
Given both members' involvement in other
projects (such as Puissance or Algaion), it was
not until 2002 that the first Arditi output
would come to be released - the limited edition
7" EP "Unity of Blood" (Svartvintras
Productions, 2002) earned the project excellent
criticism which served as motivation for the
preparation of a few other efforts put out
during the following years, among which their
debut album, "Marching On To Victory"
(Svartvintras Productions, 2003), the split CD
"United in Blood" (Neuropa, 2004), shared with
the Swedish Toroidh, and most recently "Spirit
of Sacrifice" (Blooddawn, 2005).
The project's recent alliance with Equilibrium
Music resulted in the release of the daunting
appetizer 7" EP, wherein Arditi presented two
brand new and exclusive tracks in a limited
edition of 500 copies, and paved the way for
the "Standards of Triumph", a new full-length
opus now available in both Digipak CD and
limited edition heavy vinyl via Equilibrium
Music.
Boasting the unique personality of this Swedish
combo, "Standards of Triumph" taps further into
the darker tones of Militaristic Neo-Classical
ambiance that has become the band's trademark,
resulting in their strongest effort so far -
ever effective in their use of crushing
orchestrations and evocative speeches, Arditi
hereby drags the listener around muddy
trenches, leaving aside overly pompous festive
marches or alcohol fueled merry bunker songs
which seem to have become the norm as of late,
and casting an hypnotizing veil over the
turmoil of warfare-inspired Industrial
soundscapes.

03. Deathmarch

REL.DATE.. Oct-24-2008
Finally after a long pause, the new A CHALLENGE OF HONOUR album
is out now! their last album "Seven Samurai" was released 4
years ago and in these past years many things changed (in) ACOH.
with "No way out" you will hear a completely new side of ACOH.
the album would be best described as a pure Neo(Pop)Folk album
with many Neoclassical and some Martial elements. Peter learned
to play several acoustic instruments in the last years and some
guest musicians also helped to create the band's new style. on
"No way out" You hear acoustic piano, guitars, e-bass and
contrabass, drums, violin and bells, as well as electronic
instruments. most songs are with lyrics and have quite a dreamy
and catchy atmosphere with monumental and heroic parts. some
songs even spread a feeling of early 80ies independent music
like Joy Division, the Fall, New Model Army

Jaennerwein - Abendlaeuten (2008)
GENRE..... Folk, Martial
LABEL...... Heimatfolk
MODE....... VBRkbps / Joint-Stereo
REL.DATE.. Oct-22-2008
JAENNERWEIN is a brilliant new Folkband from the breathtaking
Salzburg countryside around the holy mount Untersberg, the
myserious home of STURMPERCHT.
They play their very own style, a mix of oldschool Folkmusic and
NeoFolk with some Martial rhythms, many Alpine-Folk and even
some medieval elements. Jaennerwein use many traditional alpine
instruments, as harmonica, bells, marchial-drums, flutes, lyra
and violins, but they also use a few electronics and they create
a warm and heimish atmosphere in all their songs.
Although they come from the same region and have a similar
musical background as STURMPERCHT, JAENNERWEIN are somehow quite
different, because they are more serious with their ancient, sad
lyrics about holy (often christian) rituals and mysteries from
the central european Alps. But anyway - who likes Sturmpercht,
MUST like JAENNERWEIN as well !
